Best Trails In The Triangle

Although widely known for its universities, research, and food, the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area boasts an impressive array of trails perfect for running, walking, and hiking. Below is a brief list of a few of the beautiful trails that are perfect for a brief getaway.

Located just outside of downtown Durham, Duke's East Campus Wall is a quick 1.62 miles on light gravel. If you are looking for a quick walk or run before or after work, or to take in a beautiful day before heading to downtown Durham for the afternoon, this trail is perfect for you.

The Regional Park of the Year in 2015, the Eno River State Park offers almost 30 miles of trails open to the public. Located in Durham and Orange Counties, the Eno is beautifully maintained and has trails for both the beginner and the experienced runner. The Cox Mountain Trail is a well known favorite. A 3.75 mile loop with beautiful suspension bridges, hills, and the powerful Eno River, this is an amazing place right near the heart of Durham.

The 2.91 mile Al Buhler Trail is located in Durham's Duke Forest and is perfect for runners and walkers. With a fine gravel terrain, you'll never lose your footing as you stroll through the shady and beautiful Duke Forest.

At 22 miles, the American Tobacco Trail is perfect for both marathon runners and novices. This trail provides the public with a wonderful way to view the forests, cities, and highways that make up Durham, Chatham, and Wake Counties. A nice getaway from UNC's campus, The Bolin Creek Trail is located right in the heart of Chapel Hill. Coming in at 1.5 miles, this trail is perfect for a quick escape into nature.

Coming in at an impressive 27.5 miles, the Neuse River trail is a beautiful weekend escape. Located in South Raleigh this trail is part of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail, which connects North Carolina from the Smoky Mountains to the Outer Banks. Known for its Sunflower Fields that bloom in June, this trail truly amazing.

If you want to run along a beautiful lake, Bond park in Cary is perfect for you. With 4.2 miles of trails, Bond park is well-maintained and is one of the largest parks in Wake County.
